What is Flipped Learning?

Before you think about flipping your classroom, I encourage you to ponder the following eight questions (images to the right). Answering these is the first step in preparing yourself, your students and their parents for a change in their learning environment.

In your group, discuss the following eight questions, jotting down your main ideas on a Google Slide. We will come back and expand on our discussions and answers at the end of this session.

MoveNote
Once you have spun the wheel and received a resource, explore it.
You will be given 20 minutes to explore this resource.
When this time is up, you will share your new-found knowledge of this resource with the group.
You have a maximum of 1 minute to do this (yes, we will time you).
Focus on the following three points:
  1. What is this resource? What does it do?
  2. How could / would it be used in a flipped learning environment?
  3. Would you use this resource? Why / why not?

Reflection

Based on the video you watched and the resources you explored, has your view of flipped learning changed?

Join up with your original group to add to or change the original Padlet document.

Answer the original eight questions:
  • What will you flip?
  • Who will create the flipped tasks?
  • What software will you use to create the flipped tasks?
  •  Once you have created the task, where will you put it for students to access?
  • How will you check if students watch / interact with the content?
  • How will you communicate with your students on how to access the flipped content?
  • How will you communicate to parents about how flipped tasks will be a different learning experience at school?
  • How will you reorganise classroom time?
